“The Bruckner Orchester Linz is the second largest orchestra of Austria, its history spanning 200 years of tradition and excellence. The care and performance of romantic symphonic works – just like the symphonies of Gustav Mahler – is a cornerstone of this tradition. As its ambassadors, it’s not only an honour but also a privilege, to bring our Mahler and Bruckner to the United Kingdom this spring. “ Markus Poschner, conductor
Join us for the very first performance in the newly refurbished Town Hall! Following an absence of more than two years, Classical Music makes a welcome return to the newly refurbished Town Hall. Slightly in advance of our official opening date, this performance is set to be a very special night indeed, featuring one of the true epic works being performed in Middlesbrough for the very first time. We are delighted to welcome the Bruckner Orchester Linz with their esteemed conductor Markus Poschner to perform Mahler’s 2nd symphony, which will mark an historic premiere at Middlesbrough Town Hall. This vast orchestra will be joined on stage for this memorable performance by soprano Brigitte Geller and alto Theresa Kronthaler, accompanied by the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus and Leeds Philharmonic Chorus. Mahler’s ‘Resurrection’ Symphony No. 2, one of the world’s best-loved works, took six year to complete and is often found near to the top of ‘Greatest Symphonies of All Time’ lists.
